Moedas to debate science at Citizens’ Dialogue event
The European Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science is set to address an event focusing on open science and innovation next week in Finland.
The event, entitled ‘Open Science – Open Data – Open Innovations’, sees Carlos Moedas speak to attendees at the University of Helsinki in the Finnish capital, where he will be joined by a panel of speakers that include Professor Thomas Wilhelmsson, Chancellor of the University of Helsinki. The speakers will discuss a ‘vision of open science’ and how the new Investment Plan for Europe will benefit science and innovation, as well as jobs and competitiveness. The event is part of the European Commission’s ‘Citizens’ Dialogues’ series.
Joining the European commissioner and the university chancellor on the panel is Valto Loikkanen, co-founder of the Grow VC Group (a global pioneer of securities crowd funding), and Kristiina Hormia-Poutanen, director of the National Library of Finland. The president of the Association of European Research Libraries is also expected to address attendees.
Other topics to be discussed include how open science can benefit research competitiveness and quality and how to address the challenges of open science. The debate will be moderated by Professor Anneli Pauli, president of the Lappeenranta University of Technology.
The event is being organised by the European Commission Representation in Finland, the University of Helsinki, Tekes and various Finnish Government departments, amongst other bodies, and will take place on 31 August 2015 at the University of Helsinki.
More information on the event can be found here; Citizens’ Dialogues seek to encourage discourse between the European College of Commissioners and EU citizens on the common agenda.
